When you work with ELL student parents, they have a different set of needs or values. As a bicultural child, I remember how my parent did not understand why projects had to be so expensive or have a short preparation time. Give a little bit of lead time for the kids to prepare a quality product and class time so they can conference with you about your expectations. Different mathematical problem solving methods will also be in place in the home, so be open to that. Be sensitive to the financial burdens you place on students with projects.

The classical view of language development. U.S.Language Development Leaders

Access the information on the buttons and ponder what you see on the videos below. The scholars are brought to you in the order in which they occur in your students' language process development as well as regular education student issues. Reflect on each and you will see a recursive pattern that builds on itself through their contributions. You will recognize the same pattern in the works of Microsoft and Apple.

A number of years ago, I read an article that I can't find anymore but the thought stuck. I've also been one of these for IBM. Silicon Valley, engineering in general, will sometimes use people with absolutely no experience in problem solving on an issue they're addressing to make sure they have considered all angles, ingénue input if you will. How appropriate for an idea-driven culture always looking for alternative approaches in brainstorming. Just a thought...
Peak Learning Systems helped me understand the need for practice.
Our English Language Learners do this everyday and even though it takes time, they stick with it! Let's advocate for the same challenges in foreign language for fluency!

This won't apply to elementary students, but there are issues around writing that teachers need to be aware of, e.g., topic sentences and paragraphs. How a student has been taught before, and the direction of how even the expression form works isn't wrong, we just have a different system. Read on for interesting insights.
